WILDLIFE MIGRATION

Wildlife Migration in Tanzania and Kenya

The Serengeti Ecosystem and the Wildebeests (white-bearded gnus) and Burchell's Zebras. The wildebeest calve on the Serengeti Plains from January to March. They generally depart the Serengeti in May, where they head east and north for Lake Victoria and the Maasai Mara, crossing the Mara River around July. They leave the Mara in October-December.

TAS 06. OVERNIGHT AT SHIMBA RAIN FOREST LODGE (MEAL PLAN IS HALF BOARD) PDF Print E-mail

1 DAY. SHIMBA HILLS NATIONAL RESERVE, SHIMBA RAINFOREST LODGE 3* MEAL PLAN IS HALF BOARD.
You will be picked from your hotel early in the morning, then drive for about forty-five minutes to reach this cool and lush reserve. You will start searching for the animals including elephant, giraffe, buffalo, warthog, the rare Sable antelope that are only found here in the whole of East Africa and maybe the leopard. All these plus colourful birds are seen in a green Rainforest of Shimba hills.

Thereafter you will tour the Sheldrick Falls at the slopes of the hills before lunchtime. Watch water splashing a top a cliff 30 metres high and the water forms a natural pool causing casual sports wear are preferable

It is very important to put into consideration before disembarking from the vehicle to go down the hill 45 minutes gentle walk that this is a fitness exercise and it's recommended for the physically fit people.

Found only in the Shimba Hills National Reserve within Eastern Africa, the sable antelope is slightly smaller than its cousin the roan, but is more solidly build.

Lunch will be at the Shimba lodge and it will be served in a restaurant-overlooking waterhole. The lodge is the only tree hotel at the coast and it has a stunning view from its base of rainforest. After lunch you will have another game drive to nature walk zone. This is a guided tour and at times, you come close to the wild game.

Sit around a born fire as the resident naturist takes you through the history of the lodge, park and its inhabitants. The sun is now preparing to set and you watch yhe beautiful rays which lift up the sky as it goes down the horizon. On a clear day, you can see the Usambara Mountains in Tanzania.

Driver back to the lodge and get refreshed as you await to have a sumptuous dinner in the main restaurant. Our restaurant is open for drinks and you have the night at leisure then dinner and overnight in the lodge.

DAY 2. TRANSFER BACK TO THE BEACH RESORT.
Drive for morning game drive where you would be likely to see the elephant, buffaloes and other animals including elusive leopard reverting back to the lodge for breakfast followed by another game drive in the park enroute to the beach resort arriving in mid morning.

Road distance covered from Diani Beach to Shimba Hills National Reserve and back is approximately 80 kilometres.
