WILDLIFE MIGRATION

Wildlife Migration in Tanzania and Kenya

The Serengeti Ecosystem and the Wildebeests (white-bearded gnus) and Burchell's Zebras. The wildebeest calve on the Serengeti Plains from January to March. They generally depart the Serengeti in May, where they head east and north for Lake Victoria and the Maasai Mara, crossing the Mara River around July. They leave the Mara in October-December.

ABOUT MANDA BAY
Manda Bay now has 16 chalets of which 11 are on the waterfront and the remaining 5 are set back on the sand dunes, all of which overlook the sea. Each chalet has a veranda with swinging hammocks and en-suite bathrooms. Each room contains enormous walk-in mosquito nets, overhead fans and 24 hour electricity.

We have had an amazingly busy Christmas & New Year, made all the more fun with our brand new water toys arriving in the nick of time. Bananas, super screamers, wake boards, skis ... the list is endless. We had more children than adults over this season, so we employed two water sports instructors, who are still recovering.

For those looking for a more relaxing experience, our guests over this season have made the most of our miles and miles of secluded beach; our wonderful masseur has been run off her feet; our dhow has been used to the full to the point that we have been forced to rent dhows from the Lamu residents; spending a day out in a dhow where you catch what you eat is an unparalleled experience!

For those of you who find it difficult to give up on Kenya's wildlife to sit by the beach, we have had fabulous sightings of bush buck, dik diks, buffalos, bush pigs and even bush-babies in the bar. We've even seen hippo tracks 4 or 5 times in the past month.

The switchers have been kept busy too, with the rare crested guinea fowls, lots of Carmine Beaeaters as well as some guests witnessing a Marshal Eagle killing a dikdik. We have just welcomed 150 new chicks, who we trust will supply us with eggs for ever and ever. They are also proving to be a great children's attraction. We had fabulous Humpback Whale viewing from August until the end of October and we are seeing dolphins more frequently year round. Last but not at all least, we now have a 6-seater airplane Saratoga that can whistle our guests from Nairobi to Manda Bay in 115 hours

NOTE
There is no direct from Mombasa to Lamu Island for clients flying from Mombasa beach hotels and south coast beach hotels would have to be transferred to Malindi airport to catch up for the flight
