Taita Hills Sanctuary is located in South Eastern Kenya, at the edge of the Tsavo East National Park. Taita Hills Safari Resort & Spa, located at the main entrance to the sanctuary, is a stone building with 60 spacious rooms and two suites, all with their own private viewing balconies. The lodge also has a museum displaying some World War I memorabilia, reflecting the rich history of Taita Taveta County. Overnight stays are at Salt Lick Game Lodge, offering excellent game viewing opportunities from your room balcony.

While wildlife sightings in Tsavo National Park are limited due to its environment, the park forms the largest protected area in Kenya and is home to most of the larger mammals. It hosts vast herds of dust-red elephants, rhinos, buffaloes, lions, leopards, pods of hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks, lesser kudus, gerenuks, and a prolific birdlife featuring over 500 recorded species. Together, these lodges provide a perfect getaway from the Kenya coast or Nairobi city.

Day 1: Tsavo East National Park and Taita Hills Sanctuary, Salt Lick Game Lodge (Fullboard)

You will be picked up from the hotel at 06:00 and bed driven to Tsavo East National Park, where you will arrive at 09:00. You will then go on a morning game drive until lunchtime. A sumptuous lunch will be served at Voi Safari Lodge at 13:00.

At Voi Safari Lodge, you can look out onto three water holes and watch the ever-changing panorama of Africa unfold before your eyes while enjoying the luxury of waiter service. There is a special ‘hide’ for camera enthusiasts, allowing close-up and candid pictures of wild animals that do not suspect any human presence.

In the afternoon, at 15:00, you will depart for another game drive in Tsavo East National Park until 16:30, then proceed to check out through Voi Gate and depart for Taita Hills Sanctuary. You will arrive in time for a game drive en route to Taita Hills Game Lodge & Spa, where check-in formalities will take place at 18:30. The drive from Tsavo East National Park to Taita Hills Sanctuary is only 40 minutes. You will then be transferred to Salt Lick Safari Lodge for dinner at 19:30, followed by an overnight stay.

While at Salt Lick Game Lodge, large numbers of wildlife come to drink at the adjacent waterholes, providing a wonderful opportunity to view animals up close in their natural habitat. The lobby and terraced bar offer excellent views and photographic opportunities, and an underground tunnel and bunker with ground-level windows provide unbelievably close yet safe access to various animals as they drink.

Day 2: Back to Kenya Coast

You will wake up for tea or coffee and a snack at 06:00, then depart at 06:30 for a morning game drive until time for a full breakfast at 08:00 in the lodge. Thereafter, enjoy another game drive from 10:00 until lunch at 13:00 at Taita Game Lodge & Spa. After lunch, depart for the Kenya coast, arriving in the evening at 18:30.
