Back from the Brink;
The southern white rhino (Ceratotherium simum) is listed as near threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). According to the IUCN, this subspecies was on the brink of extinction by the end of the 19th century – having been reduced to just one small population of approximately 20-50 animals in South Africa. However, in one of the most successful collective conservation efforts of the century, there are now thriving populations in east and southern Africa – totalling over 20,000 animals. Ol Pejeta conservancy has 30 southern whites. There is actually no colour difference between white and black rhino. The name is said to have been a mistranslation of the Afrikaans word ‘weit’ meaning ‘wide’ – which refers to their square shaped lips used for grazing. This is the main distinction between white rhino and black, which have a hooked lip for browsing. The southern white rhino is said to have the most complex social structure of all rhino subspecies (a group of rhinos is called a crash!) and prefer open grass plains making them easier to spot on safari.

Detailed trip itinerary

Day 1: Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Sweetwaters Serena Camp (Fullboard)

Depart from your Nairobi City hotel or from the airport latest at 09:00 for only three hour drive to arrive time for lunch in the camp after a short game drive in the conservancy with animals like elephants, wild dog, lion, hyena, buffalo, cheetah, rhino, and all the plains herbivores.

After sumptuous lunch from 15:30 game drives coverage start that by the end of the two nights stay must make you to see Northern white rhinos and Chimpanzees touring in turns, Morani Center, Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, Baraka, Rhino Memorial, Equator Sign, Hippo Hide, Scott’s Hide all offering unlike understanding, dinner and overnight in Sweetwaters Serena Camp at 18:30.

Days 2: Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Sweetwaters Serena Camp (Fullboard)

This day will be spend in the conservancy exploring various areas of top interest and shall start with morning game drive at after tea or coffee and a snack at 06:30 until at 08:00 time for full breakfast in the camp. This early morning game drive has the highest possibility of seeing the predators on the hunt being nocturnal and their prey on high alert. After a rest in the camp there shall be another game drive from 10:00 until time for lunch 13:00 in the camp. In coordination with your driver guide who knows all the terrains really well in both and afternoon sections game drives you would cover all areas of interest in the conservancy comprehensively. The afternoon game drive would commence at 15:30 until time for dinner and overnight in the camp from 18:30.

Day 3: Transfer Nairobi (Lunch)

This day being the last day of the safari in this conservancy you will wake up at 06:00 for a coffee or tea and a snack and depart for game drive until time for full breakfast at 08:00 in the camp. There after depart to Nairobi City were you will arrive time for lunch Carnivore Restaurant and spend the day on leisure in the city then be dropped at a Nairobi City CBD hotel or at the airport.

Easter & Christmas Surcharges
A surcharge would be charged per person per night on Good Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Easter Monday and on 24th 25th, 26th, 31st December and 1st January. The Surcharge would be confirmed at the time of booking for clarity purposes.


For optimal enjoyment of your safari, we urge you to carry the following:
All weather firm shoe pair, short and dress to use during the day, trouser for use in the evenings with long sleeved shirt, sweater or jacket, hat, swimming costume, sunglass, camera, binocular, sun protection cream and insect repellent spray or cream.
